Stephan Lugbauer, Film Screening
2 December 2011, 20.00 - 22.00
Viennese artist Stephan Lugbauer (1976) will present two short films
he produced in Los Angeles, as a residents at the Mackey Apartments
(by MAK Center Los Angeles).
The first movie is a filmic collage on Los Angeles and the residency
program based on former resident's memories, diary entries, references
to art, literature and film. The reflection on the MAK Schindler Program itself transformed into a project between art and entertainment - a multilayered live performance. The Mackey Apartment House designed in 1939 by R.M. Schindler, not only functioned as the stage/location of the project, but transformed into a main character.
The second movie shows the performance in which two actors played tour guides and ran tours every 15 minutes through the apartment house.
Accompanied by a cameraman and a sound engineer the visitors were guided to a platform of the upper level, looking down to the live audition that took place in the penthouse.
The main interest of the project was the multiple layering - it started as a chaotic accumulation of events and informations (the real residents‘ work presentations, the „fake“ residents performing tours, etc. and the „real“ actors waiting to be auditioned for a „real“ job in „fiction“) which finally resulted in a functioning whole.
